Introduction

Beyond the era of transformation and innovation, the Seoul Shinmun hosts 「Seoul Future Conference 2021」 to overcome the post-covid19 by suggesting the new standard of rebounding from the age of hyper-uncertainty.

The Seoul Shinmun aims to suggest complex solutions for future issues in this era of change and innovation through the 「Seoul Future Conference」.
Lectures and discussions by top scholars from all over the world at the Seoul Future Conference bring up a meaningful topic about the development of future technologies.

In 2016, we reviewed the Fourth Industrial Revolution, a global trend, and checked the current state of technological development in Korea and countermeasures for our industry and society.
In 2017, under the theme of 'Job and Education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution Era,' we discussed changes in the job due to mechanization, automation and educational innovation to respond to this development.
In 2018, under the theme of ‘Beyond the Age of Connections’, we investigated how the expansion of connectivity caused by technological development affects our society and industry through an analysis of smart cities, blockchain, and big data.
In 2019, under the theme of 'The Era of Imagination, AI Asks,' we focused on how our lives would change with artificial intelligence technology and discussed collaboration between artificial intelligence and humans.
In 2020, under the theme of ‘The Digital Transformation, New Normal for Next Generation’, we discussed a new growth paradigm that will be implemented as digital technology after the coronavirus.

A total of 80 domestic and foreign speakers and 2,600 audiences participated in the event held over the past five years, becoming a place to reflect on the impact of technological development on the future society and to predict innovative changes in advance.

The Seoul Shinmun, which celebrated its 117th anniversary this year, is going to host the 「2021 Seoul Future Conference」」 with the theme of [At the Age of Uncertainty, Big Change]World’s leading experts will share their insights on climate change, hyper accelerated change of technology, and De-globalization.

A symbol of the Seoul Future Conference (SFC) is inspired by the human brain and its complicated and circuit-like structure. It symbolizes the SFC leveraging unlimited potential and creative ideas to touch upon various issues of tomorrow.

It also represents human fingerprints that are unique to each person, demonstrating respect for independent and different viewpoints. At the same time, fingerprints can act as a gateway. As such, the SFC would like to become a key to reveal the unknown future.

The color orange stands for the SFC as creative, bold, open-minded and forward-looking.

CEO Message

The ‘Seoul Future Conference 2021’ will discuss how to surpass the challenges coming from the age of hyper uncertainty prompted by climate change and De-globalization. The conference will provide a unique opportunity to deliberate on how to respond to climate change and to keep our planet sustainable in the future. Furthermore, a wide range of hot topics are waiting for you, such as metaverse, universe, and millennials and generation Z. This year, renowned scholars from home and abroad will take you to the core of those topics with their lectures and discussion.

In the Keynote Session, Dagomar Degroot, a professor at Georgetown University, will deliver his lecture on the climate-resilient society based on the analysis of past climate patterns from an environmental historian perspective. Next, Jeong-ho Hong(professor at Seoul National University Graduate School of Environment Studies), Frank Rijsberman (Director-General of GGGI), and Won-jun Kim (head of KAIST Graduate School of Innovation and Technology Management) will propose more concrete climate actions and the strategy that will contribute to more resilient growth.

In Session I, Dae-shik Kim, a professor from KAIST and co-author of Hyper-Acceleration, will make a forecast about the future trend of scientific and technological development based on the multidimensional analysis embracing neuroscience, economics, and sociology. In addition, he will tell us about what changes and opportunities may arise in the future.

In Session II, a wide range of future-oriented topics will be covered under the theme of ‘Emergence of the New World’. Hyung-wook Choi, CEO of Future Designers, will explain to us about the metaverse, a possible new world in the era of contactlessness. Next, Peter Schneider, a science journalist, will take us to the universe in search of another Earth. Last but not least, Zhouying Jin, a professor at CASS, will tell us about how the rapidly evolving AI will transform the world.

In the SFC Talk, an intergenerational discussion is waiting for you. Millennials and generation Z play a significant role in every aspect of our society, be it politics, economics, and culture. Professor Kyung-il Kim, Gi-chan Kim, and Jeong-woo Ku will discuss various topics with the Youth Supporters of SFC, including communication, corporate culture, and consumption trend. We anticipate your passionate participation and support.
